Yalta Conference Photos - 1945 These photos were taken by the Army Signal Corps at the Yalta Conference which was held at Yalta in the Crimea from February 4 - 11, 1945. Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin met to plan the final defeat and occupation of Germany. They also agreed on how to deal with the liberated countries of Eastern Europe. Note how Roosevelt's health is obviously slipping. At the time of the Yalta Conference, Roosevelt was 63, Churchill was 71, and Stalin was 67. Roosevelt died on April 12, 1945, just two months after Yalta. One of the photos shows Roosevelt meeting with King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia. This meeting took place aboard the cruiser USS Quincy in the Great Bitter Lake (Suez Canal) after the Yalta Conference. My father was given these photographs by a friend who attended the conference. |
